Jitterbug

(Uzuri Recordings ) - Dj - London - UK

Jitterbug

During his childhood, it was the music of Michael Jackson that first grabbed Jitterbug’s aural attention, and this is what led to a lifelong obsession with Black Music. In 1994 he first tasted House Music at a club… the rest is history. He set about tracking down records he’d heard at parties, and eventually invested in the trusty Technics turntables. Chicago House became his first real love, blown away by the rough yet soulful grooves of producers like Gemini and Cajmere, and the hard, funky sounds of labels like Relief Records, Prescription, and Dance Mania. Detroit Techno followed suit, and a strong fascination for the roots and history of Dance Music cemented his love for Black Music in all its many forms.

Years later, he is still inspired by music on a daily basis, be it the stripped down minimalism of Robert Hood, or the heartfelt blues of Muddy Waters: his interest has never waned, only morphed, expanded, and diversified. With more than 10 years DJing experience, and a vast record collection spanning House, Techno, Soul, Disco, Funk, Dub, Reggae, and more, these diverse tastes are reflected in both his DJ sets and productions. A typical JB DJ set may be comprised of soulful slow-burners, heavy Chicago House, jazzy Techno, deep, hypnotic grooves, mad drum tracks and forays into dubby downtempo styles, Disco and Funk. At heart a vinyl junkie, going digging for records remains a favourite pastime.

In the studio, spontaneity is key - find a groove and roll it out - never get stuck listening to an 8-bar loop: let it write itself, organically. A huge believer in the original DIY House ethos, for his productions he is happy with a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that feels much more personal to him than much modern Dance Music that he finds overly sterile. With a well received ep on Uzuri Recordings already under his belt & 12″ releases forthcoming on Millions of Moments and Metrolux Music, and DJ gigs on the horizon in Berlin and London, he is keeping his head down and his ears open, trying to challenge himself creatively and develop as both Producer and DJ. Eventually, an artist album would be a huge ambition realised.
